JARED PICKNEY

JARED PICKNEY

Jared Pickney \\

Elder, Missional Community Leader, Teacher, Vision, STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT

I am the husband to Megan, and father to Nora Kate, Wyatt, and Moses.  I enjoy good music, walking through cemeteries, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, and dating my smoking hot wife.  As a pastor, I am passionate about keeping the church focused on the mission of making disciples.  I love raising new leaders and coaching them towards becoming the men and women God has created them to be.  And I long to see joy fill this city as every man, woman and child in Paragould is having a daily encounter with the Real Jesus as a result of Fellowship bible church being here.

I’m married to my best friend in the world, the lovely Kari Sue. We have three beautiful, fierce little girls that we’re crazy about: Lucy Blue, Susanna Jane, and Georgie Love. (I’m incredibly outnumbered!) I enjoy dating my wife and daughters, reading, smoking meat, eating smoked meat with friends, watching college football, listening to and making music, and squeezing in some solitude and silence. Kari and I love the city of Paragould and long to see this people and place know the love of God fleshed out in Jesus (Rom. 5:8) and poured out in his Spirit (Rom. 5:5). When I close my eyes and imagine Fellowship Paragould 10 years down the road, I see a family of dozens of Missional Communities sprawled out, covering over the whole city and manifesting the presence of Jesus. I see our people loving, serving and blessing their neighbors and influencing the arts, business, government, media, and education of the city. I see a city transformed into the kingdom of God, where sinners are saved, addictions are broken, shame is removed, guilt is forgiven, fear is overcome, social justice is accomplished, the hungry are fed, orphans are adopted, and dividing lines are destroyed—people of different sides of the tracks, school districts, social statuses, tax brackets, and skin color are all worshiping Jesus and living out the gospel together in Missional Communities. More than anything else, I see a city full of people who know they are loved by God in Christ and who live, work, and play accordingly—full of indestructible joy.

LUKE MOORE

Luke Moore \\

Elder, Missional Community Leader, Teacher, children's ministry

I am the husband to the beautiful and always lovely Donna-Momma.  I love being the father to our dramatic Hannah, lively Lydia, Andrew buddy, and baby Eva.  My favorite things to do are definitely hanging out with my family, throwing dinner praters, deer and turkey hunting, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Mississippi State Bulldogs.  As a pastor, I am passionate about children and families.  I want parents to take the role of discipling their children with care; and I want to ensure that the church is coming alongside them to support them and equip them for the great responsibility.  I am prayerfully passionate about our church being instrumental in changing the culture of Paragould, AR from a culture of works and law to earn God's approval, to a culture of rest and grace in the finished work of Jesus.

Statement of Faith & Theological Distinctives

Our Beliefs

We hold to the statement of faith of the Lausanne Covenant.

Theological Distinctives

GOSPEL-CENTERED THEOLOGY

God is the initiator of Salvation and Jesus is the Hero. God doesn’t respond to us – we respond to God’s initiative and calling. He saves and secures us for salvation and we respond only because of and by his grace. Jesus’ life, death, resurrection, ascension and sending of the Spirit are the center and fulfillment of our faith. It is through him, because of him and in him that we come to be God’s people, are transformed and have hope for final restoration.

ALREADY-NOT-YET ESCHATOLOGY

We believe the Kingdom of God was inaugurated in Jesus’ first coming and will be consummated in his second coming. We live in the in between where we can experience the reign of Jesus while longing for its completion as we also experience the reality that things are not yet fully as they will be within the new heaven and new earth. We acknowledge the variety of views within inaugurated eschatology and allow for this variety within our family.

CHARISMATIC PNEUMATOLOGY

We believe the Holy Spirit is alive and active in regeneration, empowerment and ongoing filling for the purposes of God in this world. We believe all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still available today, but not one of them in particular is required to give evidence of the baptism or filling of the Spirit.

MISSIONAL ECCLESIOLOGY

We believe the church is the family of God sent by the Spirit to make disciples of Jesus to all nations throughout the world. We are saved by God’s power for God’s purposes to bring him glory in all things wherever we are. The church is always being sent by God to accomplish his mission.

GOSPEL COMMUNITIES ON MISSION AS PRIME ORGANIZING STRUCTURE

We believe the most irreducible and effective structure for making disciples as the church is a Gospel Community on Mission (GCM)—aka Missional Community (MC). This is a smaller group of people who gather regularly and engage in everyday life on mission throughout the week with a commitment to reaching a particular people and place together with the goal of making disciples and multiplying and sending more GCMs.

ORDERED EQUALITY IN SHARED MINISTRY

We are complementarians in that we believe men and women are created in the image of God equally, yet with distinct roles in the family and church. Men and women are called to use their gifts fully in the ministry of the church under the leadership of biblically qualified male elders (plural). In the marriage relationship husbands and wives are called to display the Gospel story of Christ laying down his life for his bride the church and the church respectfully submitting to Christ.  As such, husbands are called to sacrificially love their wives as the head of their home, while the wife is called to respectfully submit to her husband.

Who We Are In Our Daily Lives

GOSPEL IDENTITIES

When understanding what it means to be gospel-centered you start to get a picture of how the gospel effects every inch of your life. We learn that the gospel is not:

Simply an idea to talk about

Not just something we hit the “like button” on.

Not about changing behavior without first changing your heart.

In fact, when we take a closer look at the Story of God we see that the gospel is so powerful that it changes our entire life by giving us a new identity in Christ. Who We Are and How We Live is completely shaped by Who God is and What He Has Done.

Practically, the result is that from this point forward, we will be leading our church family NOT primarily based upon a prescribed set of actions (come to church, get involved in a missional community, serve in a church ministry), but instead based upon our core Gospel Identities: who we are because of who He is and what He has done.

Our motivation for what we do must come out of who He is and what He has done or we will be leading people into lives that are not grounded upon, lived and walking in line with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Gospel Message leads to Gospel Motivation to live out our new Gospel Identities in our everyday lives.

What are these Gospel Identities we bind together in as the church?

FAMILY

Every human being is designed to belong. God created us in family and for family. We are changed for and cared for in our family. No one “arrives” here apart from a family, fractured and broken as it may be. And everyone seeks a group of people to belong to and with. In the gospel, we are adopted by a perfect Father as sons—fully accepted and loved. Our “belonging” is based on His work, not ours, and therefore cannot change. We dont do good works to BE justified, we do them because we ARE justified (John 1:11-13). We are loved by our Father because of what Christ has done. When we fail to believe the Gospel, we try to find approval through connection to a church, a community, a group, or religious activities with a group of like-minded religious people. We prop them up as functional saviors who affirm and accept us; yet when they fail us, we are devastated. And it is certain that every one of them will fail to deliver the love and acceptance that the Heavenly Father gives.

God has always desired a people—an earthly family who would live in such a way that the world would know what He is like. Jesus said that those who live in His ways and obey His Father are truly His family. Through believing Jesus and His Gospel, God supernaturally placed us in His family in such a way that, whether we know it or not, we are now brothers and sisters with each other. As family we must grow in seeing it as our obligation to personally care for the needs of one another—both physically and spiritually. We disciple, nurture, and hold each other accountable to live with one another, as God sets forth in His Word. And ultimately our family is to be a blessing beyond itself out to those who are trying to “belong” somewhere else. Thus, God brought us INTO His family through Jesus SO THAT we could share our family with others.

MISSIONARY

Every human being is designed to fulfill a mission. We are all living FOR something/someone, and are on mission to attain what were living for. We are searching for a purpose to justify our existence. In the gospel, we are brought into the ONLY mission that will succeed—the mission of Jesus. The gospel transforms us into Gods missionaries—His ambassadors who have been reconciled AND sent out to be agents of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:17-21; John 20:21). In the gospel, we have been justified through Jesus fulfilling HIS mission and purpose and we JOIN HIM on the mission that is guaranteed to succeed. Our proof is the resurrection—nothing could stop him, not even sin or death. Apart from the gospel, every other mission is guaranteed to fail because it will not overcome sin and death.

God sent his Son, Jesus, to Earth to take on human form and live within the culture. He worked, ate, and interacted among the people, living in such a way that those around Him could see and experience what God is truly like. Jesus came so that all people, places, and things could be restored to a right relationship with God. In the same way, we believe we are missionaries sent into our culture to restore all things to God through Jesus. While we must live this out through a display of love (like Jesus did), the gospel is a message and therefore mission only takes place as we share the good news with people like Jesus did (John 1:1420:21; Colossians1:19; 2 Corinthians 5:16-21).

SERVANTS

We are servants of Jesus who serve Him by serving others.  Fully God and fully human, Jesus took onthe posture of a servant. He gave His life, even unto death, so that others could experiencesalvation, peace, and restoration. Jesus said “I am among you as one who serves...” All those whofollow Jesus are called to serve in the same humility. For us, this means joyfully submitting to Jesusas Lord, to the leaders He has placed over us and each other, as we also serve whomever God bringsinto our lives. We do whatever He leads us to do (Matthew 20:25-28; 25:31-46; John 13:1-17,Philippians 2:5-11; 1 Peter 2:16).

FAQs

You've got questions. We've got answers.

What time do you gather on Sunday mornings and how long does it last?
We will start every Sunday Gathering at 9:30am and will end anywhere between 10:45 and 11:00am.

Do you have something for my children?
Yes. We have a nursery and a children’s church where our volunteers work hard to connect with your children on a personal level so that they can help connect your children to God in a safe and fun environment.

Do you meet any other times besides Sunday mornings?
Yes. We have Missional Communities that meet throughout the week in various locations to help each other grow in their understanding and application of the gospel. You can learn more about Missional Communities here.

Can I join or become a member of Fellowship Bible Church? How?
You can become a member of Fellowship Bible Church by attending our Members Class and by involving yourself in the life of a Missional Community. We welcome anyone who has expressed faith in Jesus Christ to partner with us in the mission that God is sending us on in Paragould.

What denomination are you?
We are a Bible Church. This means that the Bible drives who we are and what we do as a church. We refuse to add anything to the Bible or take anything away from it. We refuse to build a church on tradition rather than the Word of God.
